Firewall and Security Network Engineer


This position is to provide remote or on-site full time (40 hours/week) in Van Buren Township, Michigan.


Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Assess, design, configure and maintain Public Internet/Extranet and remote site firewall services infrastructure for Unify Managed Service customer networks
  • Creation and version control of related documentation and network (firewall) diagrams
  • Creation of operational reports related to PI Extranet infrastructure performance, availability, capacity, and faults
  • Perform change implementation activity of customer initiated firewall service requests
  • Perform firewall troubleshooting / resolution of customer reported incidents
  • Provide communication on status of pending change activity
  • Perform 24×7 (on-call) Level 2 & 3 support functions for the implemented firewall infrastructure supported by Unify Managed Services on a rotational basis


Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Associate degree in related technical or IT discipline OR
  • Equivalent of three years experience in firewall security / network engineering support role
  • Technical  certification in Checkpoint, Cisco, Fortinet, or Juniper (preferable), router / network related technology
  • Working knowledge of Checkpoint,  Fortinet, Juniper (both NSM and Junos a plus) or Cisco firewall hardware and software (configuration)
  • Excellent customer and management communications and facilitation skills
  • Ability to solve practical network related issues and deal with a variety of tangible and intangible variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to organize and prioritize several daily work details and project activity at the same time
  • Proven ability to work within a team of technical  and business professionals in a multi-vendor environment
  • Proven ability to produce and maintain technical diagrams, reports and related documentation
  • Solid understanding of firewall policy/configuration and networking fundamentals


The IT Infrastructure Technical Team Lead for Data Managed Services is critical for support of Unify’s Visteon account.

This position requires a working hands on technical expert vs that of a “manager or PM type skill”.


Job Responsibilities


  • Managing and monitoring enterprise DDI infrastructure.
  • Managing and monitoring enterprise security infrastructure.
  • Deployment and management of a large VPN infrastructure across multiple technologies.
  • Provide third level support and analysis during incidents.
  • Provide escalation support to staff during incidents and problem resolution.
  • Assist system administrators and network engineers in planning to ensure compliance with security and infrastructure policies.
  • Development of tools or scripts to facilitate job automation.



  • Minimum of five years network experience.
  • Minimum of five years experience with DDI and tools, preferably VitalQIP.
  • Minimum of five years Linux administration.
  • Minimum of five years security specific experience.
  • Minimum of three years experience with Juniper Firewalls (ScreenOS and JunOS) and/or Fortinet Firewalls.
  • Experience with CheckPoint and Cisco ASA/PIX Firewalls.
  • Experience with F5 BigIP load balancing (GTM and LTM).
  • Experience with Steel-Belted RADIUS.
  • Experience with BlueCoat proxy servers.
  • Experience with Server/Workstation virtualization (ESXi/VSphere)
  • Experience with Juniper (PulseSecure) Secure Access Service (Pulse, Network Connect and Content Intermediation Engine).
  • Experience with open source and commercial system monitoring tools, Nagios preferred.
  • Programming experience in PERL, PHP, C (C+,C++,C#), and BASH scripting.
  • Strong understanding of Sybase and MySQL databases.
