Summer Fun: Sidetracks, Depot Town and Frog Island Park

YPSILANTI — Summertime here in Ypsilanti is great.

Today, I am going to go swimming in the Rec/IM pool since I don’t have to pay for it, because I am a student. The club pool here at EMU is the perfect spot to escape the sun and have a swim. Then I think my roommates and I are going to walk down to Depot Town and Frog Island. Depot Town has a lot of great little food joints and ice cream places.

A favorite to students and faculty is Sidetracks, which features one of America’s 20 best burgers by GQ Magazine. Sidetracks has all kinds of yummy favorites. Personally, mine is their fried zucchini!

You can sit outside or inside and because it’s such a nice day, I think I am going to try to get a nice spot outside. Then we are going to head over to Frog Island. When I was a freshman, I remember hearing one of my sorority sisters say, “We are going to have soccer practice at Frog Island.”

I had no idea where or what that was. It wasn’t until a few months later that I realized that Frog Island was a park in Depot Town. It has biking and walking paths, fields, an ampatheatre and a stage. It’s a great park in a historic area to go hang out walk around and just be outside.

Happy Summer!
