Coach’s Lunch, A Big Success

English speaks to a crowd

Kristi Adams
Marketing Assistant

On Monday, we kicked off a new luncheon series hosting EMU head football coach Ron English. This weeks lunch was hosted at the Eagle Crest Golf Clubhouse Dining Room. Great food and conversation were had by all. We had volleyball head coach Kim Berrington and cross country head coach John Goodridge talking about their up coming seasons as well. The women’s volleyball team have already won their first 4 games and both sports are ready to kick some butt this year. Coach English spoke about their upcoming game this Saturday and the need to keep their players fresh and not wear them out to much before then. He said that the team is in good shape and will be ready to take on Army this Saturday at Rynerson Stadium.

Our luncheons are open to the public and will be hosted at various resturants around the Ypsilanti area. The cost is $15 and you can RSVP to Meghan Britton at 734.487.1411 or at mbritto3@emich.edu no later than noon the Friday before the luncheon. Our next luncheon is to be held September 13th leading up to our CMU game. Hope to see you there!

Swoop: “I’m so ready to cheer…”

By: Swoop, EMU’s official mascot

As much as I’ve enjoyed my fun in the sun this summer, it’s time to get back to work. Greg, from the strength and conditioning staff has been working with me to make sure I’m in tip top shape. I’ve been running drills and lifting weights. Don’t worry, I got it all on tape. I’m so ready to cheer on the football team as they take on Army along with all of you. So join me for the home opener September 4th and grab me for a picture. I’ll make sure to put it up on my Facebook page so you can tag yourself. Don’t forget to follow my Facebook page during the season for my many adventures caught on video. See you at the game!

Hittin’ the Streets

Never a dull moment with Swoop

EMU took to the streets this past weekend to help promote the 2010 football season. All weekend, we were out at the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival. We handed out lots of cool swag and spoke to some great people. Our athletes were in the parade Saturday and handed out posters to the crowds. Also on Saturday we had a team riding along with some great classic cars in the Woodward Dream Cruise. Swoop was even there to help pass out beach balls to the crowd watching. Not even the rain could ruin our fun time. On Sunday, 16 of our football players took to the Ypsilanti neighborhoods to hand out schedules and miniature footballs. We are really getting excited about everything going on around campus and love to take it out into the surrounding community. Hope to see you at events soon.

Decade-long Ticketholder Craves EMU Football

By David Wanko, Class of 1995

EMU is Eagle Nation.

As an alumnus of Eastern Michigan and a season ticket holder for over a decade, it has been a lot of fun starting and overseeing the EMU Football Facebook page (Facebook.com/EMUFootball).

When I heard the team was having a practice open to the public last Saturday, I jumped at the chance to get some pictures up close to the action.  Thankfully I did not get crushed by some of the very large recruits Coach English has brought in the last two years because I ventured right onto the field at times for the pictures you see in  the album.  I cannot wait for the first game on September 4th versus Army.  I will be in my usual seat on the 50-yard line (season tickets for Division 1 football for under $45!) with my cowbell ready for an EMU victory.  Go Eastern!  Beat Army!

EMU Alumni Geared ‘n Ready for 2010 Football Season

By Caitlin Jones
Class of 2010
I am so excited for the Eastern Michigan 2010 football season! After selling programs for 4 years at the games on the women’s rowing team, I am ready to embark on enjoying the games in a different way. Now that I am an EMU Rowing alumna, I am ready to tailgate and have a great time! The brand new student organization called “Eagle Nation” is in full effect, which includes the “Rynearson Rowdies” who will be out and ready to do the

wave and sing the fight song! Currently in the works is a thing called “Tailgate Tuesdays,” which I am also helping to create. Every Tuesday before a home game, there will be music, free stuff and good times to be had at the Student Center. Not only that, but you will be able to play volleyball and basketball with EMU’s finest. EMU has some of the best athletes in their sport who love to see the stands full. So let’s all get up, get out, tailgate and cheer our butts off! See you there! United We Swoop!
